Social Justice Statement

We, at Our World Montessori, join our nation in grieving the murder of George Floyd and for all of those who have suffered and who are suffering from injustice.

We Stand Against Racism and Oppression

We are strengthened by diversity and the different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives in our vibrant community. We believe in a world of equity and opportunity for every child. As Dr. Maria Montessori wrote, “An education capable of saving humanity is no small undertaking; it involves the spiritual development of [humans], the enhancement of [their] value as an individual, and the preparation of young people to understand the times in which they live.” This is our commitment to our students and their families as well as our staff. We stand against racism and oppression. We will continue to act on our values with purpose and integrity and live them every single day.

Children Are Our Future

Dr. Maria Montessori said, “within the child lies the fate of the future.” Let us do our part to ensure that every child has a future – a future where the world is filled with peace, love, and acceptance and free of racism and all social injustices. For this to happen, it is imperative that we foster an environment that consciously and unabashedly speaks about and against racial oppression—one that recognizes the systemic injustices that minorities and people of color are facing daily. We foster compassion and independent thinking for the benefit of future generations to come.

How We Guide Our Children

We must guide and empower our children to advocate for themselves and others, as they are the future. Changing the world for the better is no small task, but there are many small steps that we can take, and many means by which we can make this difficult concept accessible to our children. Below are some anti-racist and diversity resources that will allow us to help our children learn and work toward justice, allyship, and unwavering human compassion. Here are a few resources to help start conversations with your children.
“Now is the time for us to be intentionally anti-racist, and to denounce and call out injustices that are occurring right before our eyes—injustices that impact the students, parents, staff members, and schools within our community, and in some cases determine whether they live or die. It’s time to stand for, and with, justice” – Amira Mogaji, President, AMS Board of Directors.
